Who Are We

Leadership Raleigh Alumni Association is made up of more than 200 Leadership Raleigh graduates. Members are from a variety of backgrounds that share a common commitment – to do what they can to help make our community strong.

Each of the members has spent a year in the Leadership Raleigh program, sponsored by the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. During that year, they have met with local and state business, civic and community leaders in energetic exchanges to learn about such topics as city, county and state government, health and human service agencies, law enforcement, communications and the media, regional growth, education and the arts. They have also learned more about leadership through focused workshops, team projects and direct communication with other leaders.

For the past nine years the Leadership Raleigh Alumni Association has helped them to build on those skills by providing regular opportunities to address critical issues of interest to the city and region, to work on leadership skills, to participate in service projects and to network with friends.

Add to that the years of experience our members have in their professional lives as accountants, attorneys, architects and 20 other careers and you have a strong, diverse group of people with the skills to help any organization through service, whether as board members, commission appointees or volunteer supporters.

What Do We Do

The association serves as a resource when non-profit and governmental agencies are seeking volunteers or making board/commission appointments. Graduates of the community leadership program meet regularly to keep abreast of the current issues and challenges of the area and to network with each other. Networking provides an opportunity to meet leaders from business, government and non-profits who want to give back to the Raleigh community.

Leadership Raleigh Alumni demonstrate leadership skills by volunteering in two projects each year. In 2002, alumni participated with Hustead House, a residence housing patients with AIDS in Raleigh, funded by both public and private organizations. Alumni helped ‘spruce up’ the group home with some light landscaping, cleaning and yard work. Each September, alumni volunteer, along with our partners from Big Brothers and Big Sisters for the Big Sweep waterway cleanup in an effort to clean up the creek beds in our community. The LRAA was also very involved in the Special Olympics when they were in Raleigh a few years ago.
