Search for Board Members for the Raleigh Food Co-Op
Dear Leadership Raleigh Graduates,
I was recently made aware of the Leadership Raleigh group of young professionals. Jennifer Tolle Whiteside, Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina, suggested that I contact the group to possibly get the word out about our search for Board of Director members for the future Raleigh Food Co-op. (Hopefully you have heard the buzz about the small group of extremely dedicated community members doing the ground work to get a food cooperative up and running here in Raleigh. You can also check out the website at www.raleighfoodcoop.org if you are interested.)
I have just recently moved to this area from Greensboro where I worked as Marketing Director for that communitys natural foods cooperative. I am eager to jump on board with the steering committee of the Raleigh Food Co-op and I want to assist them in any way that I can. Being new to the area, my knowledge about the community is limited and my contacts here are few. I am inquiring if you may be able to help me communicate with alumni of Leadership Raleigh to introduce the opportunity to serve on our Board to some business savvy individuals.
Please share any and all of the information I am forwarding with other individuals at the Chamber who may be interested in participating or helping us get our small business off the ground. We are specifically in need of individuals with financial and/or legal expertise to serve on our Board.

EMMAUS HOUSE SEEKS BOARD MEMBERS
In the tradition of welcoming the stranger, Emmaus House provides a transitional housing program for homeless men in Raleigh, NC. Started in 1986 with volunteers and a grant from Pullen memorial Baptist Church, Emmaus House was incorporated as a 501C3 organization in 1989 under the name of the Raleigh Housing Fund, Inc. Its operating budget is $34,823. Emmaus House is located in downtown Raleigh in a two-story home thats over 100 years old where a safe, drug-free housing and support program is offered to seven men and a resident manager. The Board meets once a month on the third Tuesday evening from 7-9 at the house. On the current board, there are three women and eight men. Board members make occasional visits to other program serving the homeless and they occasionally join Emmaus House residents for meals.
Future goals of Emmaus House are to continue to strengthen the existing program for residents and redevelop the network of faith and community organizations providing volunteer services and meals. Another goal is to build or renovate another facility, perhaps the first in a series of new facilities.
For those of you who may be interested in serving on the board or a committee at Emmaus House, please contact David Lazzo at 854-1282 or dlazzo@arcadis-us.com
